Meet our Senior Minister

Reverend Day Broers (brewers) was born and raised in Illinois, where she was steeped in Disciples culture from an early age. Her grandfather, an inspiration and a huge well of support during her call, was also a widely respected Disciples minister.
She earned her Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education from the University of Illinois before moving to Florida. She went on to earn her Master’s in Educational Leadership from the University of Central Florida.
She first sensed a call to ministry in 1994, and with the blessing and support of her family, she left Florida behind to attend Lexington Theological Seminary in Lexington, Kentucky. During her second year of seminary, Rev. Day became quite homesick for Florida and asked the Holy to allow her to return to Florida after she completed her education.
God answered her prayers, and she was called to serve at Fort Myers Christian Church. She was subsequently called to serve as Senior Minister at Brandon Christian Church in the Tampa Bay area. Rev. Day would serve Brandon for seventeen years, the longest tenured Senior Minister in the history of the church.
We are incredibly blessed to have her with us. Rev. Day’s view of the Scriptures is that when properly read, they offer a blessing for everyone. As such, she typically offers dynamic sermons that leave an impression on us while also leaving us feeling blessed and grateful for the hearing of the Word of the Divine.
Our Mission and Vision:
Our mission is “to proclaim the good news by loving Jesus, others, and yourself.” Matthew 22:36-40
Adopted in 2003, our vision is to be a nurturing family of faith with joyful worship and compassionate outreach.
What to expect on Sundays at FCC Melbourne
† Worship is at 10:00 am every Sunday morning.
† Come just as you are, whether in a suit and tie or shorts and a t-shirt, you will find a caring and welcoming community that feels blessed by your presence and hopes to offer a blessing in return.
† We offer a more traditional worship style with some contemporary elements and music.
† After service, all are invited to join us for a time of fellowship (often with snacks and coffee) in the Narthex just outside the Sanctuary.
What we believe
† “We confess that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God and proclaim him Lord and Savior of the world, requiring nothing more – and nothing less – as a basis of our life together.” At FCC, you will never be asked to confess your faith through any creed or statement of faith. We invite people from all backgrounds to worship with us. Whether you have a strong relationship with God or you’re not even sure what you believe, you will find community at FCC. To join us in membership, the only confession that you will be asked to make is that you believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God, and you proclaim him Lord and Savior of the world. It’s that easy! No classes, required learning, tests, and definitely no hidden agenda!
† We hold the centrality of Scripture, recognizing that each person has the freedom and the responsibility to study God’s Word within the community of the church. At First Christian Church, Scripture is at the heart of everything we teach and preach. However, you will not be told what the Bible “means” in a manner that closes off all other possibilities. Instead, you will be encouraged to grow in your understanding of Scripture through individual prayer and study that is strengthened and supported by participating in our congregation’s Christian Education opportunities, worship, and community sharing.
† We hear a special calling to make visible the unity of all Christians,
proclaiming that in our diversity we belong to one another because we universally belong to Christ. Disciples are called together around one essential of faith: belief in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Beyond that, we believe in the individual freedom of Christians to follow their consciences guided by the Bible, the Holy Spirit, study, and prayer. This belief helps create a broad spectrum of believers in our church, and we seek to honor our differences faithfully through unifying discussion instead of divisive debate. Wherever you are on the spectrum of life and Christian faith, you are welcome!
† We gather for the Lord’s Supper as often as possible, experiencing at this table the gracious forgiving presence of Jesus Christ. Communion is offered every Sunday and on special days such as Christmas Eve and Maundy Thursday. It is administered by the elders and deacons of the church, with an ordained minister usually presiding; however, this is not required, and lay people often will preside. We believe that just as the love of Christ is open to all who would receive it, so is the Communion table. Therefore, everyone who worships with us without exception is invited, encouraged even, to partake.
†We affirm the priesthood of all believers, rejoicing in the gifts of the Holy Spirit that God has given for the common good. We believe that God calls both ministers and laypersons to lead in ministry. Practicing a true “priesthood of all believers,” we seek to encourage members and friends of our church to be active in every aspect of ministry, from worship leadership to community outreach.
